How to Clean and Maintain a Juicer
How to Clean and Maintain a Juicer
Juicing is extremely beneficial in helping us lead healthy lives, but you need to consider the health of your juicer as well. The following instructions will help give your juicer a long and productive lifespan.
The best way to maintain your juicer is to remember to clean it immediately after juicing. Fruit and vegetable pulp can get in unexpected places, and bacteria build up in no time. Mold can find a home there as well, so be sure never to give it a chance to grow.
Tools
To effectively clean your juicer, you need an assortment of tools:
- Small Brushes (Such as a Toothbrush and Nail Brush)
- Soft Scraping Tool Like a Rubber Spatula
- Soft Cloth or Sponge
- Dish Soap
- Hot Running Water
- Drying Rack or Towel
Washing and Drying
Unplug and Disassemble Completely
- Wash the mesh strainer and run water through it from the bottom to help dislodge any residue and pulp fragments
- Be sure to wash away this debris before it dries for easier cleaning. It can become very difficult to clean off.
- Soak dried residue on the strainer, soak it a while in hot water with a little soap, and wash again.
- A small, stiff brush comes in handy as well.
- Once clean, set it out to dry.
Air drying is most sanitary, so use a drying rack or clear a space on your counter and lay down a towel.
Toss the Pulp
- Dump the contents of the pulp bin (which make great compost) and scrape out as much as you can.
- Rinse out any loose pulp and use a brush to turn your attention to any hard-to-reach areas depending on the shape of the bin.
- Once all the buildup is gone, wash the bin with soap and water using a cloth or sponge.
- Set it out to dry too.
Wash Accessories
- Wash all the other pieces, allowing them time to soak in hot water if needed.
- Set them out to dry as you go, maintaining enough space between drying pieces that air can flow between them.
- Once all the water-washable parts are clean, check the motor unit as best you can, looking for any hard-to-notice places where grime could hide.
- Make sure everything is completely dry before you put it back together.
Keep it up
Regular, thorough cleaning of your juicer is the most important thing you can do to maintain its life and health benefits. Remember to clean after every use! Drink your delicious, nutrient-rich juices every day, confident that you are free of unknown contaminants like mold and bacteria.
Be well!
